And the Oscar goes to...
Oscar night was really fun! I always look forward to this award show. The biggest night for Hollywood is all sparkle and glam. All the beautiful gowns, all these actors past and present coming together to celebrate the year's accomplishments. It's always fun to watch when you have a favorite and you're hoping they take home the gold, literally.
Last night Billy Crystal returned to host this prestigious event. After many years of low ratings and complaints from critics and public they felt the need to bring out the big gun, Billy Crystal. Though he was reluctant at first but ultimately he couldn't say no. Thank goodness he didn't. He was entertaining, funny and had a great opening number. His jazz medley of the 9 Best Picture Nominees was great!
The presenter where all in good form. Each having there own little skits, I especially liked Robert Downey, Jr. & Gwyneth Paltrow's exchange and loved Emma Stone's perky first time presenting piece. Melissa McCarthy & Rose Byrne where also pretty funny with their Scorsese drinking game. Some friends and I had fun Facebooking "Scorsese" back and forth. : )
Esperanza Spalding sang "What A Wonderful World" for the In Memoriam segment. If you haven't heard her before and like jazz you really need to check her out. So good!
I have always wanted to see Cirque Du Soleil live and after seeing their performance I want to see it even more. It was so amazing!
As the night drew to a close the Best Actor/Actress and Best Picture awards were given. This is who I wanted to win.
Best Actor- Jean Dujarin or Demian Bichir (A Better Life- a great movie, sad & inspirational)
Best Actress- Viola Davis
Best Picture- The Artist or The Help
I was really happy with two of these categories. I was disappointed when Viola Davis lost out to Meryl Streep. I haven't seen The Iron Lady so I can't really say much about her performance but I did see Viola Davis and she was phenomenal! She made that movie. She gave her character strength, vulnerability, genuineness, spirit and a voice. It was an amazing performance.
But that is the nature of competition. And the show must go on!
Can't wait to go the movies and see next years possibilities!
