Love Brings Life
With the news of Whitney Houston's death many remembered her beautiful voice but most lamented what brought her to this point. They have completed the autopsy but wouldn't know exactly what killed her but they will say that they found medicinal drugs and alcohol. The common assumption is that she overdosed, purposefully or accidentally that we'll never know. She is one of many celebrities that have lost their life in this manner.
Anytime I hear news of someone who we think "has it all" has died and drugs are the culprit I can't help but feel so sadden. With all their fame and wealth they still felt in need. I'm never taken drugs so I can't say from experience what it feels like, but people I've spoken with say that they feel relaxed, calm, free. All their worries have gone away. It's an escape. An escape from life. There are so many things we don't know about people and what truly lies beneath the surface. What drives them to take drugs or alcohol in order to feel whole.
On Saturday night during a small bible group a question was asked, "Without love does life matter?"
I pose that question to you now. Seeing what has happened recently to Whitney Houston and the path that brought her here, was it love that she was seeking. Was she seeking to make her life matter? Was she going from well to well to find water that would completely and ultimately satisfy her only to find the well empty?
I believe that when we are created we are created in love. God is love so it would only make sense that His creation embody that gift. Not only are we created out of love but we are born with the need for love. The love for others and more importantly God's love. Many if not all will find love in their life. Love for people, things, pets, etc. But only a few will find the love that makes them whole. God is the only one who holds that kind of love. He wants you to have it! He wants to shower you in His love. He gave the ultimate sacrifice, His Son Jesus Christ, so that you could share in His love.
There may be some where love is non-exist and when you observe them you see loneliness, depression, sadness and bitterness. These individuals are examples of what happens to us when love isn't present. Our body and spirit wither away and all that's left is an empty shell.
So, does life matter without love? No. Without love we are nothing. We exist because loved brought us into existence. Without our primary source of love, God, life is empty and we are always in constant search for it.
If you have been searching and haven't found that true love I invite you to focus your eyes on Jesus. His love for you kept Him on the cross. No love is greater than the one the Creator has for us. Seek it out and see how wonderful it can be.
