I Feel Like A Woman
Today is International Women's Day. International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's. Since that time Women have tirelessly fought for economic, political and social equality. This celebration has extended from USA & Europe to include women from different regions were the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.
The date of this celebration has varied through countries. In 1913, Russia on the eve of World War I campaigning for peace, Russian women observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February 1913. In 1913 following discussions, International Women's Day was transferred to March 8 and this day has remained the global date for International Women's Day ever since.
I want to single out Russia for a moment. Russia has made International Women's Day a national holiday. The tradition for this day is that the men wake up early in the morning to buy flowers for the women in their lives. Mothers, wives, daughters, sisters. This day honors all women from young to old. They are reminded how precious they are and how important they are. That is such a beautiful tradition.
I am grateful to these women who fought side by side to grant me the rights I enjoy today. I am able to vote. I am able to work in the field of my choice. I am able to have a voice. With all of these rights however have come consequences. Laws have been passed that give us rights that do not belong to us, Roe v. Wade being one of them. We've lost sight of others rights, a person right to live, and that breaks my heart.
Every life is fearfully and wonderfully made, no matter the size or whose womb carries them. Everyone has a right to live. God alone gives and takes away.
Today is a day of rejoicing and celebrating being a women. It's even better if we celebrate women as God ordained us to be. A women in Christ "dresses herself in strength and makes her arms strong." (Proverbs 31:17). "She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy." (Proverbs 31:20) "Her strength and dignity are her clothing." (Proverbs 31:25) "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." (Proverbs 31:26) Above all she remembers that "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." (Proverbs 31:30)
God Bless You, Sisters!
