I Run to You
There is a song by the group Lady Antebellum called "Run to You." The song imparts a lot of truth of everyday life. Even though it's essentially a love song, it's amazing how we can adapt it to our relationship with God. I changed a few words or phrases (noted in paraphrases) here in there to serve my point but the main message remains the same. Here in this world when trouble comes I Run to You (God).
"I run from hate, I run from prejudice I run from pessimists, but I run too late
I run my life or is it running me, run from my past I run too fast or too slow it seems
When lies become the truth That's when I run to you"
We know the things we should do or stay away form.
We know to protect our hearts from hate & prejudice. We know that we have hope through Jesus Christ. Yet there are times when we feel weak and discouraged. We feel controlled by this fallen world who insists on reliving our sinful past. The lies whispered into our ears bring doubt and pain. Truth is covered in fog. When the darkness overwhelms us God is who we run to.
"This world keeps spinning faster into a new diaster so I run to you, I run to you (God) When it all starts coming undone (God), you're the only one I run to you"
In the midst of all the chaos He is the our constant. When the walls come crashing down it's God whom we run to. He is our strong tower. Our refuge. Our hiding place.
"(I) run on fumes, your life and mine Like the sands of time slippin' right on through And (your) love's the only truth That's why I run to you"
We allow ourselves to be run ragged by this world. Our schedules are double if not triple booked. We try in our power to run everything to precise clockwork and all we honestly do is over extend ourselves to the brink of exhaustion. We aren't balanced. We don't set the time we need to Be Still in God and be refreshed. We unfortunately wait until we can't move anymore to surrender. Yet even in our stubbornness to do everything ourselves, God is there to renew us. His Love is the only Truth. His Love is what frees us. His Love refreshed us. His Love has Saved us.
When you are run down and discouraged remember that God's arms are always open. He is waiting for you to run to Him.
"...but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." Proverbs 18:10
