World Autism Awareness Day
I have a dear friend whose son has Autism. This boy is such a beautiful blessing. A wonderful heart with an old soul. He loves to draw and is amazing at it! He has a passion for jazz music and embraces the era. He also likes to be active by playing basketball.
The school program that he is a part of has helped him to grow. The school is essential for any child. The foundation must be firm and solid. But most of the work is done at home.
My sweet friend has so much passion, drive and love. She and her husband have worked hard to raise such an amazing boy. She is dedicated to seeing her boy succeed. Not only has she worked tirelessly to raise her son, she has never neglected her daughter. It's so easy at times to focus on a child that needs your entire attention and not provide the needed attention to the other children. That has not been the case. She has found a balance. Through prayer and support she has done a wonderful job.
I am so proud of her. The beginning was not easy. There were some difficult and rocky paths that they had to cross. Many didn't understand. The stigma of autism was high. But instead of accepting defeat, she trusted in God and He has guided them one step at a time. Being able to see her and family work together has been a blessing.
There are so many other families all over the world that are just like them. Many children who will be judged for something that they can't control. Empower them by educating yourself. When a child's well being is involved ignorance is no excuse. Robert Moran once said, " I have autism. It is not a disorder or a disease. IGNORANCE is a disorder and a disease. IT needs to be eradicated."
"Don't underestimate a person with autism. Try to understand them." - Unknown
