Feliz Cumpleanos, Papi!














My papi turns 60 today, a milestone. I give thanks everyday for his life. The Lord blessed me with a wonderful father who loves me unconditionally and who is an example of a strong Christian man. I am truly blessed!

A little poem dedicated to him: 

From birth you made a pledge to me
Keeping me from harm's way
Being loving and caring
Even to this day

As a toddler you made a pledge to me
Teaching me to enjoy life
Finding joy in daily things
Keeping away strife

As a child you made a pledge to me
Teaching me the plan of salvation
Guiding me on a narrow road
Never letting me get lost in translation

As a teenager you made a pledge to me
Being an example of a true man
Showing me how I should be treated
Not disregarded or ban

As an adult you made a pledge to me
Teaching me to remain strong in the Lord
To put on my armor of faith
To always carry my Sword

Today I make a pledge to you
To continue to love and respect
To proudly claim you mine
Your legacy to always protect

Obedience brings Victory. And Victory is Life

I'm a big Star Trek fan. I've enjoyed almost ever incarnation of this Sci-Fi giant. Recently my husband and I have been watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. One of the enemies for this particular series are the Jem'Hadar. These creatures are genetically engineered for battle and controlled through a drug called ketracel-white; which they require to function properly. Their mantra is "Obedience brings Victory. And Victory is Life." Every time they say this, I cringe. They are following orders from people who don't care for them and whose only goal is their own survival. I always felt it was such a terrible mantra. But today I had a revelation.  During today's sermon, my pastor was going over John 10, The Good Shepherd. One of his points was how do we ensure that we can hear our Good Shepherd's (Jesus) voice. We need to read His word, meditate in His word, memorize His word and obey  His word. Through obeying His word & voice we find life.

Heavenly Father (4/13/16)

Heavenly Father, Thank you for your wonderful love, grace and mercy. You have been my constant, my rock and my refugee. You have guided my path into directions I never would have thought to go. Lord, recently I have been questioning my desire to continue in the path I find myself. Is this restlessness from you? Is it God given? Do you have another path you want me to take? Father I ask for insight. Lord guide me. Father light the path you want me to take. Show me without a shadow of a doubt the directions/steps to take. Father, I rebuke any unnecessary fear that I may feel in whatever you ask me to do. If this fear is coming from the enemy, erase it and feel it withe courage and faith. Guard my heart and mind, Lord. Lord, I'm also asking for a miracle. Scott and I, for 10 years now, have this desire to have children. Lord bless us with a child. I'm being pushy now, Bless us with children!
